Updates & Initiatives
STEWARDSHIP
Conservation Starts With Stewardship
We provide reimbursement for and coordinate cleanup efforts that help conserve our outdoor recreation spaces. Efforts like the Green Stride Challenge, the Accotink Creek Cleanup Project, and the Barton Creek Trail Cleanup, have resulted in over 6,500lbs of litter removed across approximately 250 miles of trails and streams!
Our Veteran volunteer network ranges across the United States, but all have contributed to the development of our conservation community. As our organization continues to scale, we intend to support and continue our emphasis on stewardship within recreational outdoor spaces.

RECREATION
Reeling With Rangers (Hilton Head Island, SC)
A Free Fishing Charter for Veterans
Our keystone outdoor recreation initiative, we are thrilled to provide a day of targeting some of Hilton Head Island and Savannah’s most prized intercoastal and near-shore fish species. To support this initiative, we coordinate with our active duty and retired Special Operations veteran communities to bring them a day on the water with a fully sponsored professional charter. This initiative represents our commitment to building a community around outdoor recreation for our Special Operations veterans and to the efficacy of recreation in management.
These charters offer a unique opportunity for active duty and transitioning veterans to connect, bond, and decompress with those who share their unique experiences.

CONSERVATION
Drone Support for Conservation Management
In the summer of 2024, the Small Change Conservation Council has provided everything from licensure and training to drone acquisition in support of conservation management for invasive water chestnut in Northern Virginia. We aim to replicate this effort in order to provide an eye in sky that will help increase individual capacity to manage and promote conservation at the local scale!
